Upcoming Apple Festival in Sayville cancelled by Islip Town

|

Islip Town nixed its annual Apple Festival in Sayville today over concerns of the rising COVID-19 positivity rate in Suffolk County.

The festival had been scheduled to take place on Saturday, Sept. 18, at the Islip Grange on Broadway Avenue. Initially, the town posted on Facebook simply that the event was cancelled, before following up with the reasoning four hours later.

“Due to the rising COVID positivity rate, and in an effort to keep residents safe, we have regrettably canceled the Apple Fest,” the town said in its edited announcement.

The all-day festival typically attracts thousands of people. Last held in 2019, the event includes an apple culinary contest, an apple pie eating competition and a scarecrow-making contest, as well as such family activities as a petting zoo, pony rides and a Family Fun Zone with amusement rides and old fashioned games.
