Update: Blue Angels, Thunderbirds delay LI flyover

|

Update: Due to windy conditions, the U.S. Navy Blue Angels and U.S Air Force Thunderbirds will be flying over Long Island sometime next week, sources tell GreaterBabylon. The flyover could happen either April 28 or April 29 at 3 p.m., rather than today, April 22.

Around 3 p.m. today, the U.S. Navy Blue Angels and U.S Air Force Thunderbirds will be soaring over the south shore of Long Island. The show will be a tribute for frontline workers battling the novel coronavirus.

The Village of Babylon confirmed the flight demonstration on its official Facebook page.

“The flyover includes from the New Jersey East River to the Hudson River from the Statue of Liberty and onto Long Island,” reads the post. “Whether you can see this wonderful flyover or not, whether you can hear them or not, give a prayer of thanks to all our first responders, all those on the front lines and all those who are keeping our country going.”

The flight squadrons did a similar flyover in Colorado on Saturday. See the video below.

This will be one of the only time local spectators can watch these flight crews perform this year as the 2020 Bethpage Air Show at Jones Beach — typically planned for Memorial Day weekend — was canceled due to the pandemic.
