Update: The Oar in Patchogue announces it’s not for sale

|

A day after GreaterPatchogue reported that The Oar Steak & Seafood Grille in Patchogue was on the market for $9 million, The Oar has announced it’s not for sale.

The announcement was made on The Oar’s Facebook page. (Full post below.)

“In the past couple of days, Newsday & the Greater Patchogue … reported that The Oar is for sale. Unfortunately neither publication called us before running the story. Had they contacted us, we would have told them what we are happy to tell you — we are not selling.

“We are proud to have been in business for 31 years. As you all know, our staff and regular customers are like family to us. We enjoy the Patchogue community and hope to continue to provide you an excellent dining experience for years to come. So please, come on down this summer for good food, cold drinks and a great atmosphere! Thank you.”

The GreaterPatchogue story, published June 16, included links to the listing through Douglas Elliman, which issued a press announcement indicating The Oar was on the market.

The listing was still active online as of Saturday, June 17, and neither listing agent Enzo Morabito nor Oar owner Dick Blakeslee was immediately available for comment on Saturday.

Editor’s response: GreaterPatchogue was in the process of arranging for a more in-depth, sit-down interview with Oar owner Dick Blakeslee to talk about his last 30 years on Patchogue River for a longer, follow-up story. Editor and publisher Michael White decided the appropriate course of action was to go through the real estate company to do so, which is a typical arrangement. GreaterPatchogue takes great pride in its consistently fair and accurate reporting.
