Volunteers are needed to help turn Babylon Village ‘into a winter wonderland’

|

The Babylon Beautification Society is calling on its neighbors to help in the annual holiday decorating of the lampposts throughout Babylon Village.

“Each year over 1,000 people volunteer,” said Frank Petruzzo, the organization’s president. “Within a few hours Babylon Village is transformed into a winter wonderland for all to enjoy throughout the holiday season.”

This year’s decoration date is planned for Sunday, Nov. 25, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

There are no costs associated with decorating the lampposts. But in order to adorn the over 500 posts, Petruzzo says having the volunteers are crucial.

“The Babylon Beautification Society provides all decorations — tree roping, lights, red bow,” he said.

To help decorate, the Babylon Beautification Society requires everyone to be signed-up in advance. During the sign-up, volunteers can put in special requests to decorate a specific location.

After Nov. 1, those who signed up will then be given their assigned lamppost and materials pick-up location.

Volunteers are required to provide their own ladder to decorate their lamppost.
