Volunteers are being asked to pitch in for a community cleanup at Patchogue’s historic cemeteries on Saturday, Sept. 27.

Friends of Lakeview Cemeteries, a volunteer committee of the Greater Patchogue Foundation, is hosting the event at Lakeview and Waverly cemeteries.

Tasks include litter pickup, weeding, planting flowers, removing invasive plants, and cleaning historic headstones. All ages are welcome, and the group encourages community service projects.

The cemeteries date back to 1793 and include five historic burial grounds.

A 2023 assessment found more than 300 gravestones in need of repair, and restoration work is ongoing at the site.
