Neighbors unite to support Wading River mom battling cancer

|

Friends, family and neighbors have rallied around a Wading River mother as she battles a recent breast cancer diagnosis while caring for her young family.

Paula Stancampiano‑Tuthill was diagnosed with breast cancer late last year. The Shoreham‑Wading River High School alumna’s journey has been marked by medical appointments, financial strain and her fiancé Vito’s own health scare.

Her partner recently suffered a heart attack, but is now recovering, said Stancampiano‑Tuthill’s longtime friend Brittney Miller, who launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for her pal’s medical costs, travel to appointments, baby supplies and other bills.

The effort has raised nearly $14,000 from 86 donors.

“Cancer comes with so many twists and turns,” Miller wrote. “Doctor’s appointments, time off from work, financial burdens, and an overwhelming weight on your shoulders — all while trying to continue to care for your family, which includes a new baby.”

The campaign notes that recent car troubles have compounded the family’s challenges, with both vehicles breaking down, making travel to medical and work appointments even more difficult.

Focus on health

Miller’s goal with the fundraiser is to lift some of that stress so that Stancampiano‑Tuthill can focus fully on her health. The GoFundMe effort was established by Miller on Feb. 12.
