Watch: Billy Joel drops music video for new song ‘Turn the Lights Back On’

|

Billy Joel — Long Island’s favorite musician — just dropped a music video for his new song, “Turn the Lights Back On.”

When he released the love ballad on Thursday, Feb. 1, it was the first single the Piano Man released since “All My Life” in 2007.

The song, available on all streaming platforms, was accompanied by a music video on Friday, Feb. 16, two weeks after the song’s release.

The video features the current Billy Joel playing the song on a piano, with flashbacks to a younger version of himself with a full head of hair.

“I’m late, but I’m here right now,” Joel sings. “Is there still time for forgiveness?”

The song was produced by New York City’s Freddy Wexler, who has worked with a litany of A-listers in his career, including Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, Kanye West (now known as Ye), Lil Wayne, and Selena Gomez.

Joel, 74, who has lived in Hicksville, Centre Island, and the East End, has earned five Grammy awards and 23-time nominations in his career that has spanned five decades.

New Yorkers may have a few chances left to hear his new song locally.

In June, he announced that his regularly sold-out residency will end in July 2024. The first of a final string of 10 concerts began on Oct. 23. His 100th show at MSG, set for April 14, will air on CBS, starting at 9 p.m.

“For me and my band, Madison Square Garden is more than just our office. It’s home,” Joel said. “It’s hard to end — even at 150 lifetime shows … I just want to thank everyone for the wonderful things that have happened here.”

Joel’s Long Island mansion on Centre Island hit the market for $49 million. Reports indicate he’ll be spending most of his time in Florida while still maintaining some property on Long Island.
