Watch: Local groups release native brook trout into Bay Shore’s Penataquit Creek

|

The Seatuck Environmental Association and the First Baptist Church of Bay Shore teamed up Sunday to release over 50 native brook trout into Penataquit Creek.

Seatuck’s executive director, Enrico Nardone, said the impaired stream in Bay Shore and others like it on Long Island were once teeming with wildlife.

“As we’ve degraded these streams over time, the quality has gone done and [the wildlife] haven’t fared well,” he said.

The juvenile trout were reared at the Sport Fishing Ed Center in Babylon. Seatuck, which is based in Islip, is currently researching and assessing the creek’s health as it prepares efforts restore it.
