As sunflower festival draws crowds to Waterdrinker, farm readies for fall fest

After a busy summer season, Waterdrinker Family Farm and Garden in Manorville is getting ready to showcase a fall festival.

The Sunflower Festival, which kicked off in July and will come to a close in mid-September, brought hundreds of people to Waterdrinker Farm each week.

“We were extremely busy this year,” said co-manager Isabel Felice. “We have never had crowds like this.”

The biggest draw of the season came on Aug. 29, when the farm rolled out a car show.

Felice, 21, of Dix Hills, believes the 80-car show drew three times as many people as their usual Saturday crowd. “We had people come from the city, we had people come from Montauk, we had people literally come from either end of the Island come here just for the car show.”

The farm plans to do the show again next year.

In the coming weeks, Felice will help prepare for the Fall Festival.

“We will have pumpkin picking, and we will have a bunch of activities like the jump pad, the animals, mini-golf and a playground as well.”

Before Waterdrinker hosts another car show next summer, it plans to launch Long Island Farm Brewery on the property in the spring, with brothers Kirk and Joey Weiss at the helm.
