Wayback Burgers opens in West Islip

Wayback Burgers will be bringing its famous Cheeeesy burgers and hand-dipped milkshakes to West Islip this summer.

The company, based in Connecticut and founded in Newark, Del., in 1991, announced a lease-signing Monday at 425 Union Boulevard, across from the Stop and Shop shopping center.

There are currently five other Wayback Burgers locations in New York, including three on Long Island: East Northport, East Meadow and West Hempstead.

But this will be the first Wayback Burgers owned and operated by newly minted franchisees Michael Gallagher and Michael Gallagher Jr., according to the announcement.

“My family and I have always been impressed by Wayback Burgers’ customer-friendly environment and high-quality food,” said the elder Gallagher. “After learning more about the brand’s franchisee process, we unanimously agreed Wayback Burgers was the perfect franchise venture for our family.

“We are all ecstatic to make the switch from longtime customers to brand-new owners.”

The new, 1,700-square-foot location will offer a lighter and brighter elevated dine-in experience, according to Wayback Burgers.

It will also feature a modern kitchen visible through glass windows and a pass-through, Wayback Burgers’ new design allows guests to see their food as it is prepared.

Furnishings will also include a variety of seating options, including upholstered banquettes, booths, and floating and community tables.

“We are pleased to continue the expansion of Wayback Burgers in New York with the lease signing of our West Islip restaurant,” said Patrick Conlin, president of Wayback Burgers. “With operations in 35 states and new restaurants extending our footprint nationwide, it is an exciting time to be a part of the Wayback Burgers family. We look forward to working with excellent franchise partners like the Gallagher family to introduce Wayback Burgers to the West Islip community.”

Wayback Burgers is known for its fan-favorite “Cheeeesy,” which the spelling indicates, is topped with four pieces of cheese over two beef patties that are cooked to order, all sandwiched between an inverted, grilled and buttered bun. (The Cheeeesy burger is pictured above.)

Wayback also offer cheesesteaks, crispy and grilled chicken sandwiches, veggie burgers, Impossible burgers, chicken tenders, fresh salads and sides that include fries, tater tots, onion rings and mac and cheese bites.

You could wash it all down with a hand-dipped milkshake, also crafted to order with Blue Bunny-brand ice cream and milk.

Wayback Burgers currently operates in 35 states with over 170 locations nationally and internationally in Brunei, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, The Netherlands and Manitoba, Canada, Ireland and Japan.
