Wegmans Food Market, a supermarket chain with 106 locations in the U.S., has just announced that the company is expanding to Long Island.
Wegmans plans to open its first Long island store in the DSW Plaza at the corner of Middle County Road and Moriches Road in Lake Grove.
An opening date has not been determined yet.
“We are delighted and proud Wegmans has chosen our DSW Plaza Shopping Center for their first location on Long Island,” said Sam Shalem, chairman and CEO of Prestige Properties & Development, which manages the plaza. “Wegmans is a first-class asset and will be an incredible addition to Lake Grove and the surrounding communities. We look forward to partnering with Wegmans on this landmark location.”
According to an official announcement, the 100,000 square-foot location will operate on 8.5 acres of the existing 28-acre plaza.
Wegmans states on its website the company’s mission is to help customers “live a healthier, better life through food.”
The supermarket offers a variety of fresh produce, frozen foods, seafood, baked goods, deli items, prepared meals, Wegmans-branded food items and more.
For its employees, the business, according to the website, prides itself on offering an extensive array of benefits that includes competitive pay, benefits packages, premium pay on Sundays and holidays and flexible scheduling.
The company also gets involved with food donations drives and community event sponsorships.
Since starting the business in 1916, Wegmans’ retail footprint now spans seven states, with 106 operating stores and 50,000 employees, chain-wide.
And it is hugely popular with our neighbors in upstate New York.
