West Babylon coaches honored with high school gymnasium dedication

|

The legacy of two former West Babylon High School basketball coaches and educators will live on interminably — as one of the school gyms has been dedicated to their honor.

Jim Lynch and the late Frank Taplin coached the boys varsity basketball team for 26 years, during which time their teams made the playoffs a whopping 19 times.

The team also won four league championships, and earned local and state awards.

Basketball wasn’t the only thing these two were known for.

Lynch taught 48 years in West Babylon School District and also served as an assistant principal at the Senior High School; while Taplin was a longtime guidance counselor.

“To the administration and faculty of West Babylon, thank you for your friendship and support over 40 years,” Lynch said at the ceremony. “You all made West Babylon a wonderful place to work.”

In addition to the dedication poster that now hangs on the gym’s wall, the West Babylon school board also presented the coaches with plaques to commemorate their impact on the community.
