Pedestrian struck and seriously injured on Sunrise Highway in West Babylon

Police say the man was walking in the eastbound lanes when a Kia Optima struck him Tuesday night

A pedestrian was critically injured Tuesday night when he was struck by a car while walking in the eastbound lanes of Sunrise Highway in West Babylon, police said.

The man was walking between Exit 37 and Exit 38 on eastbound Sunrise Highway about 8:30 p.m. when he was hit by a 2014 Kia Optima, Suffolk Police reported.

He was rushed to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip for treatment of serious injuries. His name has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.

The driver of the Kia, Rosemarie Grispino, 50, of East Islip, was not injured, police said.

The Kia was impounded for a safety check as police continue investigating the crash.
