|

A local high school senior just scored a major athletic title.

West Islip High School soccer player Lauryn Schmidt received the Class AA Suffolk County Player of the Year award for her success on the pitch this season.

Lauryn, who led her team to a Suffolk County title in 2019 and into playoffs this past season, also earned All-County, All-State, Academic All-League, League IV Player of the Year, and Newsday’s First Team All-Long Island recognition.

The soccer star plans to continue her soccer career this fall at Marist College.

“To be recognized as the best player in Suffolk County, among so many talented athletes, is an incredible honor,” said West Islip School District athletic director Tim Horan. “It’s a credit to Lauryn’s commitment to excellence and all those who have supported her over the years.”
