The U.S. News & World Report released its rankings for the top hospitals in the states on Tuesday — and Good Samaritan Hospital made the list.
The West Islip hospital came in at No. 21 in New York.
There are over 200 hospitals in the Empire State, altogether.
According to the report, Good Sam earned high grades for its adult specialties — cardiology and heart surgery, gastroenterology and GI surgery, geriatrics — and pulmonology and lung surgery.
“The physicians, nurses and other members of our patient care teams exemplify excellence and a deep commitment to those we serve,” said Alan D. Guerci, president and CEO of Catholic Health Service, which operates Good Sam. “This recognition comes at the most challenging time for health care and is a tribute to the extraordinary caliber of professionals who provide health services at CHS.”
To prepare its annual list, the U.S. News & World Report analyzes over 5,000 hospitals nationwide, comparing each’s specialties, procedures and conditions.
According to a press release, the methodologies include objective measures such as patient survival, rates of infection, and adequacy of nursing staff.
