Mount Sinai is set for a major retail upgrade, with Whole Foods Market coming to the area and a major shopping plaza getting a complete makeover.
Regency Centers announced Monday morning that it has acquired the Mount Sinai Shopping Center, and is renaming it Crystal Brook Corner.
The center, located at 5499 Nesconset Highway along the high-traffic NY-347/25A corridor near Port Jefferson, is slated for a comprehensive redevelopment, including updated façades, improvements to the parking lot, and a broader re-merchandising strategy designed to modernize the retail space, Regency Centers said in its announcement.
The Amazon-owned Whole Foods will anchor the revamped plaza, while becoming the grocery chain’s ninth Long Island location.
“We’re pleased to announce the acquisition of Mount Sinai Shopping Center in Mount Sinai, now renamed Crystal Brook Corner,” Regency Centers, a Jacksonville, Florida-based real estate investment trust, posted on its Instagram account. “The project will be anchored by Whole Foods, reinforcing the long-term strength of this highly desirable trade area.”
Amazon Fresh closures

The announcement follows earlier reporting by Greater Long Island on the potential arrival of Whole Foods at the plaza.
In December, the Town of Brookhaven in a planning board meeting approved the site plan for revamping the shopping center. The space to be filled by Whole Foods has sat vacant since King Kullen closed in June 2019.
Regency Center’s announcement on Monday comes just days after Amazon, the parent company of Whole Foods, closed its two remaining Amazon Fresh stores on Long Island, including a location in nearby East Setauket.
No official timeline for the plaza’s redevelopment or the Whole Foods opening has been announced. Regency Centers noted the project is part of a long-term strategy to enhance the shopping experience for the community.
