Wild video posted by police shows buck trapped inside Ridge bank

|

What initially triggered a burglary alarm at a Ridge bank Sunday turned out to be something far more unexpected.

And it was all caught on surveillance video just released by Suffolk Police. (Video below.)

Footage shows a full-grown buck smashing through a window and becoming trapped inside the bank, where the panicked animal is seen leaping onto desks, scrambling across the lobby, and even slamming into what appears to be the tellers’ station as it desperately tried to escape.

Police believe the deer may have mistaken its reflection in the glass for another buck and charged, only to find itself stuck inside with nowhere to run.

As the video shows, the deer left behind significant damage while hopping from surface to surface, but responding officers were ultimately able to safely intervene.

Using a lasso, officers guided the exhausted animal back outside without injury to the deer or anyone involved.

The rescue was handled by officers from the Suffolk County Police Department’s Seventh Precinct, including Connor Kehoe, Jason Famoso, Shane Matedero, Michael Pitts and Salvatore Zafonte, police said.

The buck was last seen running off into the woods.
