Happy to be back on the court, track or alley, William Floyd’s winter student-athletes pulled together solid team performances and earned numerous individual honors.
Here’s a breakdown of who earned what, as provided by William Floyd School District.
Bowling
Head Coach James Healey guided the varsity bowling team to 13-1 record that included the team’s second consecutive League II title and a berth in the Suffolk County championships.
Louis Parrinello, who finished with the county’s second highest average 227, was an All-County and All-Long Island selection. His teammates Alex Ramoska and Juan Madera were All-League selections.
Girls Basketball
In spite of just winning one of its four games, the girls’ varsity basketball team put together an extremely competitive abbreviated season. Two of the Colonials’ losses were by a combined five points and the third loss was by nine points.
“Our team had a very competitive season in the best league in Suffolk County,” Head Coach Rich Sinclair said. “I was very happy that we kept the kids safe, and they had a chance to play basketball this year.”
Freshman Kayla Gilmore was an All-Conference selection, averaging 10 points, nine steals, 4.4 rebounds and three assists per game. Kayla scored 16 points and tied a school record with 13 steals in Williams Floyd’s 51-30 win over Patchogue-Medford.
Ka’Shya Hawkins, also a freshman, earned All-Conference honors, as well. She averaged 14.4 points, 8.4 rebounds, 2.8 blocks and 2.2 steals per game. Ka’Shya was the top 25 scorers in Suffolk County. In a 50-48 loss to Ward Melville, she scored 20 points, had 10 rebounds and four blocks.
Boys Basketball
The boys’ basketball team finished their shortened season with a 3-2 overall record and a third-place finish in League I (3-2 overall). Two of their losses were by a combined total of five points. Their three League I victories came over Patchogue-Medford, Longwood and Sachem East.
Jamal Blair and Josh Blair earned All-League honors. Mikey Smith was named the team’s Rookie of the Year.
Girls Winter Track
Girls Winter Track
The girls’ winter track team finished their season with a 1-0 record. Because the pandemic force the meets outside this season, the brutal winter made it impossible to safely run the rest of the scheduled meets.
Nonetheless, the student-athletes worked out every day, including practices at Smith Point to run the high-tide mark, in order to avoid running in the snow. As a result, the distance competitors find themselves in excellent shape for the beginning of the cross country season.
Zariel Macchia, Alanis Gonzalez, Aaliyah Jordan and Alaysia Cobb earned All-League honors.
Boys Winter Track
Five student-athletes earned All-League honors on William Floyd’s boys track team. Because of the foul weather, the team was only able to compete in one meet. The Colonials finished the season 1-0.
Eddy Vu, Krishmar Powell, Matthew Mullen, Isaiah Sadler and
Justin Cooke were All-League selections.
