Jones Beach State Park took it on the chin overnight from Hurricane Erin, which is still churning up the Atlantic.
As of early Friday, the East Coast’s most-visited beach drew onlookers from across the region to witness the devastation.
One park employee said it was the “worst since Sandy.”
“This is the craziest thing I have ever seen,” said another visitor, who declined to give a name.
Three helicopters were also buzzing overhead to survey the damage. The lot at the administrative building was completely under water, as was the eastern baseball field, playgrounds, tennis courts and barbecue areas. The photos below tell the tale.
Swimming remains off limits at Jones Beach and across the ocean beaches as the state continues to assess the flood damage, according to the parks department.
