What beverage pairs best with a good book, at least in the morning?
The answer is coffee — especially on a cool day like this.
So it made sense for the folks at Patchogue-Medford Library and Roast Coffee & Tea Trading Company in Patchogue Village to cross Main Street and come together for a joint fundraising effort to help rebuild the Carnegie Library building.
“Since most of their employees come to Roast on a daily basis, it seemed like an obvious fit,” said Roast manager Tiffany Rivera, who, along with fellow staffer Sara Guido, came up with a special Brazilian and Colombian blend they later taste-tested with the librarians.
“It’s a true medium blend so it should fit to everyone’s liking,” Rivera said.
Librarian Laura Accardi said the unique fundraiser was the brainchild of a reference clerk, Erica Carey, who came up with the idea a year ago.
“Because eveyrbody knows coffee and books is a wonderful combination,” Accardi said.
The Friends of the Library group paid for the special mugs and Roast Coffee is donating the 4-ounce bags of ground coffee.
The packages will sell for $10 each, with proceeds going toward the ongoing Carnegie Library rebuilding efforts.

The librarians are hoping for a spring grand re-opening of the 107-year-old Carnegie Library on West Main Street.
“The Friends of the Patchogue-Medford Library and the community have been huge supporters,” Accardi said, adding that their friends at Roast were “wonderful to work with.”
The gift packages are on sale at the library.
