This election season, we challenged the people seeking Town Council and County Legislature positions to give us five great ideas (or policy goals) that could realistically be set into motion within the next five years.
We called it the “5 for 5” series, and it’s proven quite popular.
The opportunity was given to candidates in the local areas, leaving out those seeking town-and county-wide executive offices, such as town supervisor and county executive.
We also left out non-lawmaking positions, such as judges and highway superintendent.
The candidates were asked to avoid personal attacks and adhere to a deadline and a word limit.
Those guidelines were largely kept, except the word limit went mostly ignored. (Oh, well.)
