General store geared toward mothers opens in Sayville

|

It’s a general store for all women, and especially mothers.

That’s how Ashley Kost describes her new retail shop Village, which just opened in downtown Sayville.

“We have a big emphasis on motherhood,” Kost said. “So we offer a variety of pregnancy and postpartum products.”

Think health and wellness products, as well as crafts, apparel, home decor, children’s toys, and more.

The inspiration for her shop, located at 36 Railroad Ave., came after Kost had her first child during the pandemic. “I felt really isolated in many ways,” she said.

Kost envisions this place as a sanctuary for new mothers or anyone in need of assistance or advice.

“We’ll be hosting numerous events, including group support sessions and workshops,” she added.

That’s where she derived the name of her shop.

“It’s a play on ‘It takes a Village,'” Kost explained. “Not everybody has a village.”

But now, they do.

And why Sayville?

Kost, whose husband co-owns indoor golf bar Birdies in Patchogue, relocated to the area during the pandemic. She said she appreciates the small-town atmosphere and excellent school district.

“We’re happy to be here,” she said.

Village celebrated its grand opening last month, with GLI photographer Andrew Theodoarkis capturing the day. Scroll down to view his photos.
