Patchogue’s annual light festival returns in October for a fifth year

|

Long Island’s first and only light projection festival will be marking five years in Patchogue next month. MoCA L.I.ghts lights returns to the village Oct. 11 through Oct. 15 in the downtown. Scroll down to learn more.

What happens

Throughout the five days, the work of local, national and international artists gets projected on buildings throughout the downtown.

It’s among the signature events of Patchogue Arts Council. And with over 150 works featured since 2020, MoCA L.I.ghts attracts thousands of visitors to Patchogue for what organizers describe as a luminous journey.

MoCA L.I.ghts is also now Long Island’s only light projection festival accepted into the International Light Festivals Organization, joining festivals from other cities such as Jerusalem, Stockholm, Singapore and Manchester, U.K.

To mark the anniversary, the organizers have planned a special exhibition called Glow Back, featuring every projection from past years. There’s also a new, site-specific projection called Garden of DeLight, highlighting the unique elements of the village’s sculpture garden architecture.

Then there are the live performances; the expansion of Interactive Projection Art Light Painting; nightly walking tours; and the launch of a MoCA L.I.ghts’ dedicated website.

The light switches in Patchogue were first flipped in 2020, during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Check out the website for updates, and for the MoCA L.I.ghts map for 2024.
