Suffolk’s Finest rescue golden retriever from West Babylon koi pond

|

A seemingly harmless backyard koi pond almost spelled doom for an older golden retriever in West Babylon — until two SCPD officers came to his rescue.

It was about 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 20, when 12-year-old Ralphie fell into the pond and his legs became tangled in the plumbing.

His owners at 1506 5th Street called 911 for help.

First Precinct officers Peter Cucchiara and Kristen Goroway soon arrived on scene, where they used an animal control pole and snow shovels to free the dog’s legs, according to Suffolk Police.

Ralphie’s owner then transported him to a local vet for treatment of hypothermia.

The pond is pictured below. Officer Kristen Goroway is pictured above.
