Ever wonder what breakfast would be like at nighttime hotspots such as The Tap Room, Bobbique or Local Burger Co. in Patchogue?
Now’s your chance to find out. Tickets just went on sale for this spring’s installment of the village’s biannual Breakfast Crawl, which is Saturday, May 18.
The crawl runs from 9 a.m. to noon, with tickets starting at $25 to dine at five restaurants.
Proceeds go to veterans groups Paws of War, United Veterans Beacon House and Military Resilience Foundation, as well as programs for the local VFW.
“This is our most important and largest Breakfast Crawl to date, as it is going to support veterans suffering with PTSD,” said David Rogers, a veteran, artist, Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce member and the event’s brainchild. “The amount of participation from restaurants and retailers tells you that this is a community that supports veterans and makes me proud to live here.”
Like a pub crawl, participants get a map of participating locations — then hop from restaurant to restaurant in search of eggs, French toast, breakfast burritos, and even barbecue options.
Also that day, various local retailers will be offering discounts to breakfast crawlers. The event is run by the chamber’s restaurant and retailers committee.
The first-ever Breakfast Crawl happened in April 2016.
“I can’t believe we’re running our eighth crawl already,” said David Kennedy, the chamber’s executive director. “We’ve found these to be tremendously popular and a great way to try out all these great restaurants we have in town, and we’re helping veterans groups.
“I’m still amazed at how successful this unique idea has turned into.”
Rogers said crawlers are being encouraged to dress in ways that show their patriotism.
There are 22 restaurants participating, several specialty food item retailers such as The Amazing Olive, Kilwins and The Cheese Patch, as well as traditional retailers like Blum’s and The Colony Shop.
The committees are also offering up awards for the event, pitting restaurants on the north side of Main Street against south side restaurants, according to Rogers.
The tickets are $25 to dine at five restaurants, $35 for 10, $45 for 15 and $50 for 20 spots.
