On Independence Day, Americans of all stripes headed to Drift 82 in Patchogue for the first-ever, Coney Island-style hot dog eating contest on the river.

The free-to-enter contest was co-hosted by Drift 82 and Coney Island Brewing Company of Brooklyn.
The rules were simple: Eat as many hot dogs as possible in under 10 minutes.
When the dust settled, one man stood victorious: Wayne Algenio.
Algenio, who lives in the area, actually downed 12 dogs in just 3 minutes. For his efforts, he got a bunch of Coney Island beer swag, a hot shirt and a $250 cash prize.
He’s also getting a free and personal tour of the Coney Island brewery on Surf Avenue.
