This is a public service announcement from the Village of Patchogue.
Patchogue, NY – In response to the National Weather Service’s Tropical Storm Warning for Long Island, Patchogue Village Mayor Paul Pontieri urges residents to take precautions before the storm arrives.
The storm is expected to cause flooding along coastal areas starting Sunday morning and continuing through Tuesday. Heavy rains and gusty winds are also forecasted.
Residents who live in areas that experienced flooding during Superstorm Sandy should prepare now. Areas that are most vulnerable to flooding in Patchogue are along the Great South Bay and Patchogue River.
Residents who live in these areas are encouraged to remove their parked cars from driveways and the street. Utilize village lots at the railroad station or other downtown locations.
Mayor Pontieri also recommends all residents to take the following steps in advance of the storm:
– Secure and have available important documents
– Have a food and water supply for three to five days
– Remove parked cars from the street to provide a clear path for emergency vehicles
– Secure and turn off propane tanks
– Charge cell phones, laptops and other electronic devices
– Secure outdoor furniture and other objects that could become projectiles
– Remove leaves and other debris from nearby storm drains
– Stay tuned to your local radio and television stations for news and weather updates
