West Islip High School’s Class of 2017’s valedictorian and salutatorian have been named as Madeleine Gaffney (val) and Jack Duffy (sal).
Gaffney is a member of the school’s National Honor Society, Foreign Language Honor Society, English Honor Society and Principal’s List, and was named Student of the Month for science.
She competes on the varsity kickline team and plays piccolo in West Islip’s wind ensemble.
This fall, she will attend Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Conn., pursuing a five-year physician’s assistant program.
“I intend to enter the medical field and hope to be successful in saving lives and making a difference,” she said.
Duffy is a member of the National Honor Society, Foreign Language Honor Society, English Honor Society, and was named Student of the Month for both math and science.
He performs with the school’s mixed chorus and is a member of the varsity winter and spring track teams. Duffy will attend SUNY/Binghamton majoring in engineering.
