Original post: There will be a lot of “onlys” involved in Bay Shore’s only bed and breakfast when it comes time to open this summer.
From what we can find, The Ocean Bay House will be the only B&B on the South Shore west of Eastport.
And it will likely be the only boat-up B&B anywhere on Long Island.
The Ocean Bay House has been in the works for almost two years — that was when the Albarano Family, the owners of the neighboring Seaborn Marina on Ocean Avenue, purchased the massive colonial from its former owners.
The first order of business was to install a 16×32 foot in-ground pool.
Then, after the permitting processes, construction crews began restoring the 127-year-old building to beyond its former glory.
They’re presently installing large bathrooms in each of the nine bedrooms, which include a master suite and a handicapped accessible bedroom. They’ve turned the previously unoccupied attic into four more spacious bedrooms, each of which will also boast a private bath.
And they are refinishing virtually everything.
“Bay Shore is such and up and coming community and we hope this will only add to the attraction,” said Debbie Cuzzo, the marina’s office manager.
69 Ocean Avenue was built in 1890 as an annex to the massive Prospect House on Ocean Avenue, which was large enough to accommodate 200 visitors before it burned in 1903, according to the Bay Shore Historical Society website.
GreaterBayShore got a tour of the future B&B this week.
“It’s a little hard to picture it now, but it will be beautiful,” Cuzzo said.
One thing she stressed is that the owners will be ditching the doilies when it comes time to decorate.
“We want this to be a much more modern B&B,” she said.
