West Babylon ranks first in national math competition

|

Here’s how it went down:

Students across the country were given four Math Fax exams over the course of the 2016-17 school year. Each contained 25 multiple choice questions.

The students had 30 minutes to complete the exams.

And, without a calculator.

When the results were tallied, West Babylon Senior High School ranked first in the nation in the Math Fax competition.

Seniors Matthew Reyes and Kunzhe Li tied for first place overall.

The two students are pictured above (Reyes on the left) with West Babylon Senior High School Principal Ellice Vassallo (left) and Math Club adviser Christina Montalvo.

In other math news out of West Babylon, the high school recently ranked 15 out of more than 300 schools that participated in the Suffolk County Senior High School Math League.

During each of the five competitions, students were instructed to solve six problems and were then ranked according to their success. Reyes placed third overall.
