A record 104 swimmers braved a westerly wind to trek through open water from Fire Island Lighthouse to Brightwaters Friday for the Maggie Fischer Memorial Great South Bay Cross Bay Swim.
Cross Bay swimmer Rob Roos said all but two swimmers made it across. (Everyone is OK.)
“It might have looked beautiful out, but it was a tough day weather-wise,” Roos said. “We had a strong westerly wind and were getting smacked in the face because of the chop. It was choppy out there. “
Below are photos from Gilbert Park, where the swimmers were greeted Friday Morning.
