A Main Street-wide pumpkin beer tasting component has been added to Saturday’s highly anticipated Chili & Chowder Festival in Patchogue Village.
Nine different bars and restaurants spanning almost the full length of the village will be offering up pumpkin beers to sample Saturday — for $10.
As with the chili & chowder contest, tickets can be purchased at the Greater Patchogue of Chamber of Commerce booth, which will be in front of W.M.J. O’Neill’s at East Main Street and North Ocean Avenue.
There’s also a cider that will be available at The Cheese Patch at 20 East Main St.
“We’re very happy to be introducing a pumpkin beer and cider tasting as part of this festival,” said David Kennedy, the chamber’s executive director. “With so many great seasonal craft brews, many of them made locally, it’s important that we added this to the event.”
Kennedy did note, however, that there is no contest involved.
“It’s just a tasting,” he said.
Participants will get a special Beerfields tasting glass and tickets to try pumpkin beers up and down Main Street, from Fulton’s Gate in the east to The Tap Room in the west.
But that’s not all that’s being added to the Chili & Chowder Festival.

“It’s just going to be a good ole’ slice of Americana, a classic harvest game,” said Kilwins of Patchogue owner, John Murray. “Each contestant will get issued a tub full of apples floating in water and they will have to empty the tub using only their mouth.”
Patchogue Fire Department fire prevention activities will also be happening on South Ocean Avenue.
Over a dozen restaurants are perfecting their recipes in anticipation of the big chili and chowder cook-off, all designed to impress you: the tasters.
Aside from hot food in bowls, there will also be the Halloween costume parade, fall-oriented vendors, free pumpkin decorating outside Patchogue-Medford Library and more.
The street fair itself runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15,and the chili and chowder and pumpkin beer tastings commence at noon.

Here’s how it works: Participants can roll up to the Chamber of Commerce booth at any time and and be prepared to pay $10.
That will get you tickets to try chili and chowder (the beer tasting is separate) at each of the 15 restaurants involved.
The tasters will then cast their vote for the best in each category.
Ballot boxes will be station in each restaurant, as well as the Chamber of Commerce booth, which will be set up near W.M.J O’Neill’s, near East Main Street and North Ocean Avenue.
‘We’ll be handing out a menu with a map that shows where all the restaurants area,” Kennedy said.
