Fundraising for the third annual Midnight on Main St. bash on New Year’s Eve in Patchogue Village is now underway.
The Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce is looking to raise $20,000 to help make this year’s New York City-style event on Main Street even bigger than last year, when an estimated 5,000 people showed up for the count-down.
To accommodate families and local businesses, the countdown actually happens at 9 p.m., with the centerpiece being a massive, LED-lit New Year’s Eve ball made by North Star Signs & Neon Inc. in Patchogue.
In prior years the ball has been raised, instead of dropped, culminating in a fireworks display from Fireworks by Grucci of Bellport. A Grucci show is scheduled for this year as well.
The party itself, with music and dancing for kids and adults, starts at 8 p.m. on Dec. 31 on East Main Street at the Capital One Plaza.
