20 Photos: Scenes from the town’s Polar Plunge at Cedar Beach in Mt. Sinai

|

by Alyssa Vera | It’s certainly jacket weather on Long Island.

But don’t tell that to the people who ran into the Long Island Sound with no hesitation at Cedar Beach in Mount Sinai on Saturday — all for a good cause.

It was the 8th Annual Brookhaven Town Polar Plunge. Money was raised for the nearly 72,000 athletes in training for the Special Olympics New York.

There was music, vendors, and every plunger who raised $150+ won a prize.

The tallies aren’t yet in but last year’s plunge resulted in a whopping $140,000 for the Special Olympics.
