Hundreds of friends and relatives gathered along Deer Park Avenue Saturday afternoon to enjoy the Babylon Village Chamber of Commerce’s annual Fall Harvest Festival and Street Fair.

The 29th incarnation of the downtown event ran from from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and featured a barbecue and food from village restaurants, live music on two stages, dance performances, rides, games, a petting zoo and pony rides, among other attractions.

Right before the fair, runners gathered at the Post Office Café for the Lessing’s Hospitality Group’s 31st Annual 5K run and children’s 1K fun run for the National MPS Society. The nonprofit strives to fight mucopolysaccharidoses, an often fatal genetic disease in children that inhibits their ability to produce enzymes that strengthen their bodies.

The annual event was held in honor of Mark and Casey Lessing, who passed in 2010 at 20 years old and in 2016 at 24, respectively.

Among the hundreds of runners at the event was Michael Lessing Jr.

“This is the one time a year that I run,” he said. “I feel good, I’m going to knock down a cold beer, give away some prizes. It’s going to be a great day.”
