Hundreds of residents looking to dive into the holiday spirit showed up for the St. James Chamber of Commerce’s 34th annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on Saturday.

Donned in glowing holiday light necklaces and winter gloves and jackets, the attendees at Deepwells Farm County Park snacked on cookies, hot cocoa and soft pretzels, while enjoying musical and dance performances from various groups from Smithtown High School East.

The Whisperettes danced, the symphonic band and orchestra performance ensemble performed holiday music and the chamber chorus sang holiday tunes. Children from the Shine Dance Company also performed, as well as the Dogwood Elementary School Chorus.

“It’s growing year by year,” said Scott Posner, chairman of the chamber and president of the Deepwell Farms Historical Society. “It’s a great event for the community. St. James is a really unique town to live in, and it’s because of the events like this and the great volunteers that we have here.”
