As part of its village-wide parks overhaul initiative, Patchogue Village will be closing Father Tortora Park on Tuesday, Jan. 17, for construction.
The work entails a demolition of the existing park at 55 Central Avenue (map below) and a complete rebuild.
The goal is to re-open the park in June, said Dennis Smith, Patchogue’s special projects coordinator, who is managing the parks plan.
“It’s a temporary but necessary inconvenience, with the finished product making it all worthwhile,” Smith said. “Next week we start working on the plans for Belzak Park to hopefully have that park renovation going simultaneously with the re-do at Tortora,”
Belzak park will remain open during the planning process.
Plans for Father Tortora include:
• A walking (stroller) track around the park’s inner perimeter.
• New play apparatus, including a large, multi-activity play piece that’s similar to the one at Shorefront Park.
• A sun/shade area with picnic type tables and benches.
• A toddler area.
• Mommy & Me swing.
• Four pieces of adult exercise apparatus.
• New hydration station.
• The existing playground equipment will be replaced with new equipment.
• The fence fabric will be replaced.
• A new walkway will be installed throughout the park.
• New bike racks, one at each entrance.
• Plantings.
