Catch Oyster Bar opens on North Ocean Avenue in Patchogue Village

|

Catch Oyster Bar is now open for businessĀ in Patchogue Village.

The intimate, 30-seat raw bar and seafood restaurant opened to the public Monday on North Ocean Avenue after a soft opening for relatives and friends over the weekend.

“Everybody was really happy; the food was awesome,” co-owner Michael Avino of Blue Point said of the weekend’s response. “People liked the size of the oysters. The lobster roll was a big seller ā€” and the grilled octopus salad.”

Michael Avino will be cooking and managing Catch with his dad, co-owner Jim Avino, who used to own The Chowder House in Bellport Village, among other restaurants.

Jim Avino also currently owns Avino’s Italian Table in Bellport.

ā€œObviously, my dad has been instrumental in helping me shapeĀ this from a vision to what it is now,” Michael Avino said. “I couldn’t have done it without him and his 30-something years worth of experience. And my wife, Ashley, has been wonderful the whole time.”

Ashley, who helped with the planning, will also be serving food and tending bar.

A key feature at Catch will be its daily-changing cast of fresh shellfish, raw fish and shellfish appetizers and catch-of-the-day sandwiches and entrƩes.

For instance, the “Boat to Plate” entrĆ©e option for Tuesday was salmon with balsamic reduction over lentils. The daily fish sandwich option was yellow sole, and the featured oysters were Blue Points, Naked Cowboys, Peconic #9’s and Peconic Golds.

Catch also had a West Coast optionĀ available, the larger Neptune oyster.

The hours at Catch areĀ 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. for the kitchen, seven days a week, with the bar staying open later.

Work on the building just north of Oak Street on the east sideĀ started this past summer.

“It’s light and airy, just like we were looking for,” said Michael Avino. “And at night, with all the lights, it’s got that nice warm feel. It’s sort of like a beach house; it’s comfortable.”
