Patchogue-Medford School District’s reconfiguration committee presented some of its preliminary findings to the school board Monday night.
The committee is exploring a possible move to a Princeton Plan-like model for the district, but the presentation emphasizes the group will be considering what it calls “not a true Princeton Plan.”
A true Princeton Plan which would reconfigure a district’s elementary schools so that they’re no longer K-5 schools drawing students from the immediate neighborhoods, with the schools instead being grouped by grade — and children would change schools more often.
However, under the plan being considered, the district would not eliminate the use of geographic lines, but instead enhance current lines. (Possible elementary and middle school borders appear in the presentation.)
Students would also switch schools less often than under a true Princeton Plan.
