The Bellport Chamber of Commerce chose John Hannon of Playcrafters Theatre Company as its Member of the Year for 2017.
Hannon was honored Tuesday evening at the Brookhaven Coalition of Chambers Annual Dinner at The Meadow Club in Port Jefferson, during which chamber president Chris Hane of MVP Automotive introduced Hannon to the room.
“He has for the past three years led our stage production of Bellport Day, which involves eight hours of nonstop music,” Hane said. “He organizes all the acts, the bands, making sure the stage is set and everything is ready.”
“He’s also contributed to all of our meetings,” Hane continued. “Even fishing out soup on our Soup Contest Day in the freezing cold. He is a great supporter of our local community and our chamber.”
Hannon is also celebrating his 25th anniversary with Playcrafters, which, founded in 1960, counts itself among Long Island’s oldest amateur theater companies.
“This is such an unexpected honor and I am humbled by it,” Hannon said. “It has been a wonderful five years with my association with the Bellport Chamber of Commerce. You have all been so terrific to work with. Thank you all for your guidance, support, and patience with me.
“I’ve made so many wonderful friends and have gained so much knowledge and insight regarding how your organization works and the businesses work, and the wealth of resources you all share.”
He also took the time to recognize his Playcrafters family.
“We are family,” he said. “What a privilege to be representing such a great organization.”
