Watch: Local brewers get together to create Craft Cares at Blue Point

|

It was a special brew day at Blue Point Brewery in Patchogue, where brewers from across the island got together to concoct the 2017 installment of Craft Cares.

Craft Cares is a collaborative beer brewed and packaged specifically for Long Island Craft Beer Week’s “Can for a Can” food drive for Long Island Cares, Inc., which benefits the hungry and food insecure on Long Island.

The beer is being brewed at Blue Point Brewery in Patchogue, canned at Great South Bay Brewery in Bay Shore, and packaged with a label by DWS printing in Deer Park.

How it works is simple, beer lovers donate two cans of food at participating locations, and in return they get a can of Craft Cares. Last year over 2,300 pounds of food was donated in total.

Long Island Craft Beer week also raised an additional $2,000.

This year’s participating brewers in this year’s Craft Cares, which is a red ale, include 1940’s Brewing Co., Barrage Brewing, Blue Point Brewing, BrickHouse Brewery, Great South Bay Brewery, Port Jeff Brewing Co., Sand City Brewing Co., Spider Bite Beer Co., and Twin Forks Beer Co.

Long Island Craft Beer Week 2017 runs from May 12 to May 21.

Long Island Craft Beer Week (LICBW) celebrates the local breweries from Nassau and Suffolk, building both brand awareness and strengthening the partnership between local brewers and the establishments that sell Long Island craft beer. MORE
