Little Shop of Horrors opens at The Gateway in Bellport

|

The hit musical Little Shop of Horrors, which shattered Off Broadway records in the 1980s and inspired a 1986 film starring Steve Martin and Rick Moranis, is coming to Bellport.

Little Shop of Horrors opens today, Aug. 23, at The Gateway and runs through Sept. 9.

The musical from Alan Menken and Howard Ashman — the creative forces behind Disney’s The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin — traces its roots to a 1960 film by the same name.

The show, about nebbish florist who nurtures a man-eating plant, is described by The Gateway as “a clever satire, bursting with dynamic dance numbers and Motown and doo-wop songs, like ‘Suddenly Seymour,’ ‘Skid Row’ (Downtown), ‘Dentist,’ and title song ‘Little Shop of Horrors.’

Previews on Aug. 23 and Aug. 24, start at $39. All other tickets start at $59.
