The nearly $470 million campus expansion project at South Shore University Hospital reached a milestone yesterday in Bay Shore with a steel topping on its new pavilion overlooking the downtown.
Once completed, the six-story tower will accommodate up to 90 private patient rooms, 10 additional operating rooms and three procedure rooms, all measuring 190,000 in total square feet.
The project, estimated to cost $468 million, is expected to be completed by mid-2026.
It broke ground in September 2023.

“We are thrilled to celebrate this moment with our team and partners who have worked tirelessly to make this project a reality,” said Mark Solazzo, president, strategic initiatives and COO at Northwell Health. “This pavilion will enhance our ability to provide top-tier care to the community while offering modern amenities for both patients and staff.”

Solazzo, along with other hospital officials, design and construction teams and key project contributors gathered at the Bay Shore campus to sign the final beam before it was hoisted into place.
“We are honored to manage the construction of the South Shore University Hospital pavilion for Northwell Health,” said Tom Giordano, general manager of Suffolk in New York. “This will be a world-class healthcare facility that will provide the
highest-quality care for patients on Long Island.”
“Like Northwell Health, our project team leverages data and the most sophisticated tools, technologies and processes to provide more predictable, seamless and efficient outcomes,” he continued. “So today we celebrate an important milestone in our project schedule and commitment to deliver the South Shore University Hospital Pavilion project on schedule and on budget.”
