|

Patchogue-Medford School District superintendent Michael Hynes delivered his State of the District address at Saxton Middle School Thursday night.

Below are some highlights.

The district also streamed the address live through Facebook.

(The full report appears below.)

• The district has made communicating through social media a priority this school year, and now counts almost 3,500 followers between Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

• Pat-Med’s push for longer recesses and in-school yoga classes, among other programs to reinforce philosophical shifts (much of which garnered press attention near and far) is all part of the district’s “Whole Child Approach” to education.

• Some academic highlights from the current school year include an expansion of the Dual Language Program, coordination of the 1st annual Meet the Instrument night, and an elementary mathematics pilot.

See report for highlights from academics, sports, art, music and more.

• The vision for 2017-18 includes an expansion of AP courses and elective courses at the high school, and an expansion of yoga and mindfulness activities across the district.

• The district is moving forward in its examination of possible reconfiguration of the buildings through a Princeton Plan-style model, with final reports expected this summer or early fall. Public forums will follow.
