Work on The Big Easy progresses in Patchogue; incoming chef announced

|

The Big Easy, a New Orleans-themed restaurant, is on track to open in 2018 in Patchogue.

Originally expected to open this past summer, the acquisition of an adjacent property allowed ownership to expand and refine their plans for the restaurant.

The new target time is spring 2018.

“We didn’t expand the building itself very much, but we will be developing some great outdoor spaces to add to the wraparound [second story] balcony for outdoor dining,” said Susan Thorstenn, who is part of The Big Easy’s ownership team.

The old building that was located at 17-19 North Ocean Avenue, the site of the future Big Easy, was over a century old and was taken down.

Restaurant design firm Dallago Associates is working on the new plans for the Bourbon Street-inspired building.

The ownership team has also named its chef.

The chef announcement:

Our chef is the real deal. A 20-year veteran of the food industry, Chef Shane Le Blanc grew up in Southeast Texas and Louisiana.

His last position was as Executive Chef at Park Avenue Tavern in NYC, but his roots are solidly in the south where he grew up and his love for cooking began in his grandmother’s kitchen.

Chef Le Blanc is perfecting a fabulous menu, featuring some classic dishes with his own modern twist. His cooking is a clear reflection of his passion for Cajun/Creole cuisine, and will bring an authentic taste of New Orleans to Long Island.

As Chef LeBlanc explains, “With my background, I have a vision of providing Long Islanders a taste of New Orleans and making Big Easy a laid-back atmosphere with an authentic locally sourced menu as well as breads shipped from New Orleans and seafood straight from the Gulf waters. Cajun/ Creole cuisine is my life and passion, and I look forward to bringing this to Long Island.”
