Hearing Monday night on Bellport’s proposed residential rental laws

|

Bellporters will be heading to their community center at 4 Bell Street at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22, for a public hearing on the latest legislative attempt to control short- and long-term rental properties in the village.

The Bellport Village Board could then vote on the proposal or defer taking action until a later date.

Perhaps the most controversial part of the legislation is that it would restrict people from renting out their homes for less than 16 days during the warmer months.

The board did pass a law meant to handle rentals in the village in 2015, but vacated the measure after public resistance by not taking a procedural step with the state.
