The Courtney Lynn Blakeslee Foundation is gearing up for its biggest fundraiser event of the year this Saturday, May 12, in Blue Point.

It’s the Courtney’s True Blue 5K.

The race starts promptly at 8:30 a.m. and winds through Blue Point with awards and refreshments to follow.

Runners are meeting at the Courtney Lynn Blakeslee Cush Pavilion, Corey Beach, located at 1 Corey Avenue in Blue Point. Click here to register online.

Or it’s $30 to enter the race the day-of, and registration begins at 7 a.m.

The foundation brings together children who have lost a parent to cancer.

It was established in honor and memory of Courtney Lynn Blakeselee, who lost her short battle to cancer on July 20, 2010, leaving behind two young boys.

Her sister Lindsey runs the nonprofit.

“While caring for Courtney when she was sick we had several conversations, however two left a lasting impression on me,” Lindsey writes on the foundation website. “The first while looking out the window onto the city street Courtney said, ‘What I would do to run.’ The second, ‘When I get better I’m going to give back.'”

“We want to unite these children that understand what it is like to lose a parent, so they are not alone,” Lindsey writes. “It is our hope, to get together and celebrate several times a year whether it is a fishing trip, ball game, festival or a picnic.”

Later this year, all the runners and their families are invited to the Sept. 15 BBQ Raffle Reception at The Oar Steak & Seafood Grill in Patchogue.
