Swell Bowls opens in Patchogue offering berry bowls and more

|

Swell Yogurt Cafe of Manorville has just opened a second shop called Swell Bowls located within the tri-level Finest Fitness gym in Patchogue.

Owner David Rose had first looked in nearby Bellport before settling on Patchogue.

“Patchogue is just such a big town,” he said.

With help from his girlfriend, Bryanna Stone, they were able to open over Memorial Day weekend in the space that was formerly occupied by EatFit Café & Salad Bar.

And Swell Bowls is open to the general public — not just gym members.

The shop offers 14 different concoctions of frozen berry bowls, such as acai and pitaya, and oatmeal bowls, as well as smoothies and protein shakes. Later this week they will start offering Sail Away cold brew coffee and Hummus Fit meals to go.

Rose says his ideas for the bowls are inspired by the array of berry bowl offerings in the San Diego area where he has spent a lot of time.

“They’re everywhere out on the West Coast,” he said. “I have a ton of friends that do this out there. But we came up with all our own bowls and the ingredients in therm.”

He opened his first store a year and a half ago in the King Kullen plaza on County Road 111 after buying an existing frozen yogurt location.

That location still offers frozen yogurt options but the Patchogue location will not.

But both will boast nut-free granola that’s made daily in-house.

“We noticed right away so many people have nut allergies,” Rose said.

Rose is also a marine mechanic whose family has always spent a lot of time by water, he said.

“So we came up with a beach theme,” he said.

He also thanked his girlfriend who was nearby mixing bowls Monday morning.

“She’s helped me with everything and I’ve been more than blessed to have her in my life because I would not be able to do it without her,” he said.

“I went from turning wrenches to doing something completely different.”
