Frontier Airlines’ first non-stop flight to Raleigh-Durham International Airport from Long Island MacArthur Airport took to the air Tuesday night.
To mark the occasion in Ronkonkoma, Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter, the airport’s commissioner Shelley LaRose-Arken and other business and elected leaders met at the airport.
The inaugural flight departed Tuesday, April 30, at 9:12 p.m. from the Main Terminal West Concourse.
“This new nonstop service means added convenience for our customers, more jobs and economic prosperity for Long Island,” Carpenter said. “Customers in the Long Island region consistently ask for more destinations from [MacArthur].”
The first inbound flight from Raleigh-Durham International Airport in North Carolina departed at 6:40 p.m. and arrived at MacArthur at 8:22 p.m.
The flights will operate three times a week – Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.
Fares are being offered for as low as $25 each way.
The flights are the first of their kind from Long Island.
“Just like Long Island, Raleigh-Durham is an important technology and research destination, and home to top universities. This nonstop service will connect our local businesses with another dynamic marketplace,” said LaRose-Arken.
