An 83-year-old Riverside man is accused of running a walk-up drug den out of his home, authorities said Friday, capping an investigation sparked by the steady foot traffic that was showing up to the octogenarian’s door.
John Woods was arrested about 11 a.m. after the Suffolk County District Attorney’s East End Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at his house. Investigators said he had been operating a curbside-style narcotics service that drew waves of visitors and repeated complaints from fed-up neighbors.
Southampton Town police said residents reported people lining up on foot and openly using drugs in the area. The raid was carried out by the department’s Emergency Services Unit.
Woods is charged with third- and fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance — both felonies. He was arraigned in Southampton Town Justice Court.
The East End Drug Task Force includes members of the Suffolk County Police Department, Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, and multiple East End police agencies, along with district attorney investigators.
